Dog laying on the floor of a living room exhibiting signs of boredom.

This is my dog Strega. She’s bored. We’ve heard that phrase our whole lives from children, friends, and family. Heck, I’m guilty of saying it myself!  But when it comes to our dogs, boredom can show up in ways that aren’t just whining or pacing—it can lead to behavior issues, restlessness, or even anxiety.

So, how do you know if you’re dog is bored? What are your options when you know you don’t spend enough time with your dog, but you don’t have any more time to give during the day?

Signs Your Dog May Be Experiencing Boredom

  • Destructive Chewing
  • Digging Holes in Your Yard
  • Repetitive Behaviors
  • Excessive Barking

These behaviors aren’t just “bad” habits—they’re often a dog’s way of saying, “I need something to do!”

So, what to DO about it?

Sure, you can leave the tv on all day, but that’s not really going to do the trick. Dogs, like people, need mental stimulation. They need challenges, enrichment, and opportunities to learn. That’s where enrichment-based training and structured socialization really shine.

That’s why School for Dogs is a perfect option for you and your pup! You drop off your dog on your way to work and we spend the day playing, training, relaxing, and walking with your dog. They’ll spend the day learning tricks and basic obedience, practicing leash skills, walking, sniffing, and just being a dog—with purpose.

If you’re looking for something simple to try at home, grab a stuffed Kong or puzzle toy. Fill it with treats or peanut butter and let your dog figure it out. It’s a small effort that makes a big impact.

Check out School for Dogs and let us train and play with your dog. They’ll thank you!
